Formal writing is fake. Nobody really talks that way. Thats why i dont like it. i like just writing. Regardless of grammer and all that because thats just so real...this is coming from somebody who wants to teach English hah oh well. ill deal.
Seriously though i love the article American Fat by Russell Baker.
"Americans don't like plain talk anymore. Nowadays they like fat talk. Show them a lean, plain word that cuts to the bone and watch them lard it with thick greasy syllables front and back until it wheezes and gasps for breath as it comes lumbering down upon some poor threadbare sentence like a sack of iron on a swayback horse."
i dont have time to find the actual article to link but its a good one. so read it.
The first couple sentences of my extended essay are the following....
In the musical Urinetown, written by Mark Hollmann, the character of Hope Cladwell teaches Bobby Strong to make decisions based on the desires of his heart rather than the expectations of his family and the town in which they live through the song Follow Your Heart. In the song Bobby wonders “Follow my heart? But to where?” to which Hope replies “To wherever your heart tells you to go. Even to the clouds, if that’s where your heart commands” (Hollmann). Bobby and Hope then betray the expectations of their families to fight the law of paying to urinate within their town. Although the main couple in the novel Pride and Prejudice do not band together to save their town from unfair urination laws, they do follow their hearts just as Hope Cladwell suggests.
...im totally going to fail haha. i dont really care tho because If you read that paragraph you would know it was written by me. and i like that.
For the record the thesis of my paper:
In the novel, Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen argues that decisions in behavior should be made because of a person’s desires and not because of societal and familial expectations in order to gain happiness as shown through her portrayal of main characters.
