The to Lifetime
so not kidding i just had to run to the bathroom to make sure i didnt pee my pants. thats how excited i am. i cant believe im making this post.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was within my grasp at 12:23AM on July 21, 2007. The only thing cooler than this moment was the way I had spent my day...
starting off the day by searching through closets of the house and cutting off branches from my trees to make the perfect harry potter ensemble. Mexican was Harry Potter himself and i was Ginny. We made a rule to talk in British accents the whole day...which we were not very good at.
EVERYBODY was dressed in costumes. The ones who werent wore shirts that said MUGGLE across their chest. It was amazing. This by far was my favorite family. How cool would it be to be part of a family like this? I love that the little girl is Umbridge haha.
The entire town was involved in the party. The Y which was blocks from the bookstore selling the books had Quidditch going on. Statistics said that half the town was Downtown for the party. Amazing.
Every store changed their name to fit the night. Anderson's bookshop was Flourish and Blotts. Even the dance clothing store was changed to the Yule Ball Dance Shoppe. We had a Knockturn Alley and everything. It was almost to much to handle. Also every store sold Harry Potter related items. Whether it be butterbeer (which i drank A LOT of that night) or polyjuice potion or chocolate frogs or wands or whatever.
POTTER POTTIES! When i say everything was decked out...i mean EVERYTHING. Streets were closed off so it was like being in DisneyWorld walking through the streets with everybody obsessed with Harry Potter...i made a joke that it was the first time i felt at home and accepted by society =)
Flourish and Blotts had about 6 portraits lined up with characters that moved. It was so magical! My favorite was Rita Skeeter trying to take a picture of Cedric and Harry with their Triwizard Tournament outfits. Fleur, here is a friend so I have a pic of her. She was later joined by Bill...aw!
They also had had official characters walking around. Peeves was doing magic tricks, Trelawny was telling fortunes, and these two were walking around together which made me laugh. They played up the Dumbly loving Snape/Snape giving him dirty looks behind his back very well until at one point a little kid got very emotional about Snape standing to close to Dumbledore and so they skipped towards each other and hugged to show that he really wasnt going to kill him in the middle of the street Downtown.
haha i just thought this was something you didnt see everyday.
MIDNIGHT! We got the books. 2,200 books were sold at this one bookstore at midnight. i was 1198 and got mine in less than a half hour which was very impressive. Overall they said 50,000 people attended the party. There was another bookstore down the street that i know sold a couple thousand.
Probably the most amazing part of the night though was walking out of the store and seeing the street lined with people sitting on the sidewalk, curb, benches, street, ANYWHERE and just reading. It was incredible to see half the town come together for this. I dont think any other book could ever do what this book has. To have all ages sit down in the middle of the street just to read the first few pages before driving home...wow.
Nothing smells better than a new Harry Potter book.
Overall, it is a day/night i will tell my children about. The first book came out in 1997. Ten years ago. I read it that year and have been excited for each book since then. We even bought the 2nd book from England because it wasnt in the US yet.

Also a group of boys dressed up as a complete Quidditch team and many hilarious House elfs.

Harry Potter is my generation. Some generations had disco or the world wars or the beatles or what have you. Mine? has Harry Potter.
Some of my friends have said that the minute they read the last word of the book is the minute their childhood will end. As we are now the same age as Harry. Its so true. Ive grown up with him. We all have.
Im so scared to finish because then it will be over. Something Ive wondered and made theories about since 1st grade will just end. I expect lots of tears.
Well, I better go read. Only on pg 207.

BTW: (if anybody could figure out the significance of my title i will be very impressed...if not well "The" is the first word of the book and "Lifetime" is the last word (besides the ep.) What a great word to end on.

"And all the time the joke is that the word 'mine' in its fully possessive sense cannot be uttered by a human being about anything. In the long run either our Father or the Enemy will say 'mine' of each thing that exists, and specifically of each man. They will find out in the end, never fear, to whom their time, their souls, and their bodies really belong - certainly not to them, whatever happens"
- C.S. Lewis, Screwtape Letters
"The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart"
- Elizabeth Foley
"Its today!" squeaked Piglet,
"My favorite day," said Pooh
"The clouds above us join and separate,
the breeze in the courtyard leaves and returns.
Life is like that, so why not relax?
Who can stop us from celebrating?"
