Demolition Derby

Moving from Chicago has brought me many clueless moments...a day. Ive been introduced to so many things since I got out here that I have never even heard of before. One of the new experiences I had this weekend was the Demolition Derby. When first hearing this term I let out a big "what...the...heck" and yet again was the only one in the room who had not heard of it or been to one.

Going to the DD, as we so fondly have called it, was actually my favorite event so far. I honestly dont think I stopped laughing the whole time I was there. Just the whole culture and setting was hysterical and fun and something totally out in left field for me.

Our favorite part I think was the musical entertainment...
This band of old dudes called The Fender Benders played old rock songs between each round. It was hilarious and I enjoyed singing and cheering way too loud for them probably the most.
It was quite the eventful derby with fire and all. I had to look around a couple times and ask myself if I was dreaming...then Id go back to laughing
These guys were sitting next to us and were 'derby fanatics' i guess you could say. They were hilarious and defined the term 'superfan' pretty dang well.
GAME TIME: which one is female?? ....the couple sitting in front of us was another aspect of the night's entertainment. The man would laugh and yell so loud and so boisterously we would just start cracking up. He also seemed to know a bunch of techniques and stats and stuff. He was so into it, I was dying. (he's on the left btw)
My favorite picture of the night. Me and one of the SLC boys posing our reactions to some of the wreckage...and to top it off a full fledged derby man behind us.

To summarize. The DD changes people lives.

Was this the derby in West Valley City? That was our first derby experience and we went back several times, taking more friends each time. I would always come back hoarse from screaming -- it brings out some crazy animal instincts that I didn't know about.

I went to a few smaller derbies at county fairs and stuff since then and nothing compares because the arena in WVC is huge and they go WAY faster. I've been spoiled by quality. Perhaps you have been too. You are probably 43% hick by now.

Amazing!

"And all the time the joke is that the word 'mine' in its fully possessive sense cannot be uttered by a human being about anything. In the long run either our Father or the Enemy will say 'mine' of each thing that exists, and specifically of each man. They will find out in the end, never fear, to whom their time, their souls, and their bodies really belong - certainly not to them, whatever happens"

"The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart"

"Its today!" squeaked Piglet,
"My favorite day," said Pooh

"The clouds above us join and separate,
the breeze in the courtyard leaves and returns.
Life is like that, so why not relax?
Who can stop us from celebrating?"
